DAVIDE CALASANZIO

Born in Catania in 1970 where he lives and works, Davide Calasanzio approaches the art of photography in 2006, when he buys his first reflex (Nikon D80) along with his first book on the subject. He therefore has a self-taught training, and initially portrays all that his eyes observe, without a precise predilection for a subject or style.
This until May 2009, when, after a long walk around the Ragusa area, it lingers along the coast of Brucoli, a small tourist resort near Augusta. Here, suddenly, an almost magical scene appears before his eyes: the motionless mirror of the sea and the clear, cloudless sky whose colors seem to blend in the glow of the lights that turn at sunset, divided only by the outline of the houses illuminated reflecting on the water and of the Etna that is majestically outlined in the background, punctuated by the thousand city lights on its slopes; witnesses of this moment, two solitary fishing boats. Calasanzio takes a picture which he calls "Absolute Quiet", and from that moment he understands that his true attitude is landscape photography. His goal, in fact, is to portray those moments in which uncontaminated nature, surrounded by the magical lights of creation, shows us all its beauty and grandeur, and man, lost in its vastness and wonder, enters almost in symbiosis with it; the human figures, in fact, are absent or at most shadows that blend into the immensity of nature and the colors of sunrises and sunsets.

The subjects portrayed by Davide Calasanzio are not limited to landscapes alone, but include city views, portraits, macro photography, naturalistic subjects, airplanes in flight, and everything that strikes and excites the soul of the photographer, who lives intensely in the first person the wonderful sensations that he manages to convey to us with his shots.
