ARTURO LICCARDI

A self-taught Catanese painter, passionate about painting from an early age, since 1995 he has taken pleasure in painting "forgeries" by his favorite artists: Monet, Renoir, Degas, Modigliani, Gauguin, and, above all, Van Gogh. Later, he dedicated himself to the production of his own works, mostly made on the basis of photographs taken by himself. From the impressionist masters, Liccardi has learned and reinterpreted the lesson of color, portraying, as in a luminous photographic shot, those "fleeting moments" which, fixed on the canvas with visual and chromatic intensity, strike the deepest strings with their vivid and brilliant colors of the spectator, bringing it back into a dimension in which the perception of the eye leads the soul to live or relive the most pleasant and liberating emotions, arising from the sight of a simple foreshortening, landscape, or element of nature.
Among all the subjects of Liccardi, stand out the marinas, which portray not only suggestive landscapes, but also the characteristics of traditional Sicilian fishing: the colorful fishing boats, the lampare, the laying of nets, the tuna fishing with bare hands. Also significant is the series of paintings depicting the glimpses of the so-called "Fera 'o Luni" (Monday's Fair), a characteristic popular market in Catania which, despite its name, takes place daily in a blaze of colors, sounds and smells that wrap the visitor, and that Liccardi presents us with such fidelity, that we almost seem to touch and smell the fish and fresh fruit exposed among the voices of the sellers ...

Arturo Liccardi has showed his works in numerous exhibitions in Catania and the province, among which we recall the collective exhibitions of the "Federiciana" Associations of S. Signorello, "51 Pegasi" by Maria Tripoli, "Pittori di Ognina" group, "Learn the Art, Learn the Art" by Ester De Felice, "Culture Space Art", CTA "Quaderni d'Arte", the Extemporaneous "Paint the Baroque of Militello" in Militello Val di Catania; the exhibitions “La via dell'arte” of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Aci Castello, “Arte Expo" at the Botanical Garden of Catania; "Omnia Arte Festival" by Salvo Luzzio at the Castle of Aci Castello; "XI Memorial Mariano Ventimiglia" at the Palace of Fine Arts in Paternò; "The color of the land of the Cyclops" at the Casa del Nespolo in Acitrezza; the collective "Cromie d'Arte Sacra" in the Basilica of the Madonna del Carmine in Catania, and many others.
