CONCETTA LORENTI
Born in Catania in 1955, Concetta Lorenti graduated from the Art Institute of the Etnea city, where she was a pupil of the master Francesco Ranno. Despite her life path brought her to a nursing profession, she never abandoned her passion for art, graduating in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania. Of immediate impact, Concetta Lorenti's painting is characterized by the original use of natural terras and pigments, ground and worked to obtain doughs of different consistencies, then spread on the canvas with a spatula, in order to create vivid and relevant compositions, demonstrating a formidable mastery in shaping material, restoring the beauty of nature and creation, re-proposed in a dreamy and magical vision; recurring is the use of gold leaf, an expression of the Divine that pervades nature, whose light is reflected in the wonderful colors of the world. The undisputed protagonists of Concetta Lorenti's paintings are, in fact, the natural elements: in the first place water, an unstoppable source of life and strength, capable of overwhelming with its impetuous waves, as well as of instilling peace and serenity; fire, both from the sun's rays which are reflected by blending into the water, and from the seething volcanic lava, an explosion of vital and terrible forces; or the fertile earth from which Nature is cyclically reborn; and finally, an inseparable part of this universe, the female figure, portrayed both as mother and creator, capable of instilling tenderness and life, and as an enigmatic and sensual figure, mysteriously merged and confused with the elements and colors of nature, almost annihilated by her the same force that drags her into a vertigo of abandonment, and from the role she has to play despite herself, often renouncing her autonomy, although she always manages to express her innate ability to welcome and mediate the energies that dominate life.
Art therefore, like love and passion, becomes a means of infinitely expanding the impulses and energies of nature capable of annihilating the inevitable anxieties and sufferings of life itself, and which Concetta Lorenti manages to transmit to us through the sparkle of its colors and lights, in a wonderful reflection that reverberates in our eyes and in our soul.
Concetta Lorenti's works have always been a hit with both critics and audiences. In 2009 she received the "La Farnesina" prize for the painting "On the waves of the sea" , in 2009 she exhibited the work "Caressed by the wind" at the Palazzo della Cultura in Catania; she has participated, since 2010, in the "Le Lune" Project of the "Spazio Vitale" cultural association in Catania, curated by Giuseppina Radice.
