GIUSEPPE RANNO, Catania artist, for 60 years, led by an innate love for art and beauty, passionately self-studied painting techniques that have led him to acquire an extraordinary technical expertise in the use of colors and an almost miniaturistic precision of the depiction, which has made him a skilled and wanted figurative and portrait painter, always distinguished by his personal and emotionally engaging style.
The one of Ranno is, in fact, a hyperrealism transfigured by the inner vision that sets the moment of movement in the canvas, crystallized as it strikes the soul of the artist and that the he brings back to us in the aesthetic purity of the painting. In the pictorial representation, therefore, the aesthetic performance is of particular importance, where the beauty caught and reproduced on the canvas takes on ethical value. In the work of the master, the technical skill emerges in the reproduction of the details, in the realistic rendering of the incarnate, in the use of tonal harmony and, above all, the use of chiaroscuro, which allows him to make the forms emerge from the darkness , which, struck and made alive by light, take on all their corporeality, emphasizing the curves and figures that, "given to birth", ultimately make life. Thus, the use of an almost “caravaggesca”, but always personal, chromaticity is expressed in what critics have called the "chromatic alchemy" of the color dissolving into the light, to the attainment of the aesthetic perfection fixed in the instant caught by the artist’s brush.
The subjects portrayed by Master Ranno are those that affect his painter's soul and are therefore the most disparate, but always linked to the vitality and inner strength of shapes and objects: from expressive faces to nude female portraits, to landscapes and still-life that evoke scenarios of harmony and pleasure, to the animal figures of horses, free of races or loaded of messes, to the peasant job scenes, where fatigue is carved in the ruts of the faces and the folds of ancient and unchanged stories.
Master Ranno, in his unstoppable push towards the study of the thousand expressions of art, is also involved in sculpture, engraving and graphics, and engaged in the teaching of artistic techniques to the new generations, that owed so much to his figure of man and master.
His works, showed in numerous group and solo exhibitions, enrich public and private collections in Barcelona, Nice, Geneva, Malta, Greece, Milan, Rome, Catania and Reggio Calabria, and are permanently on display at the Culture and Art Accademy of Granada.
